Dorothy Comstock Riley

Dorothy Comstock Riley (b. 1924) was an associate justice of the Michigan Supreme Court from 1982-1983 and again from 1985-1997, serving a total of thirteen years on the court. She also served as the court's Chief Justice in the years 1987-1991.

Prior to her elevation to the state's highest court, Riley served as a Wayne County Circuit judge and as a judge on the Michigan Court of Appeals.

She was educated in the Detroit public school system, graduating from Northwestern High School. She then attended Wayne State University, receiving her B.A. in 1946 and her LL.B. in 1949.

When Riley retired from the court in 1997, her seat was filled by Clifford Taylor.
