Education
Hoffman received his B.A degree from Oberlin College in 1976 and his J.D. degree from the New York University School of Law in 1981.[1]
Legal career
Hoffman began his career in 1981 as a law clerk for U.S. District Court Judge Anne Thompson. He then worked as a staff attorney of The Legal Aid Society, Civil Division until his judicial appointment. From 1983 to 1989, he served at the Harlem Neighborhood office and, from 1989 to 1990, he was the Attorney in Charge of the Brooklyn office. He then served as the society's New York Director from 1991 to 1994 and as its Director of Litigation in the Bronx from 1994 to 1996.
Hoffman's judicial career began in 1996, when he was appointed to the New York City Civil Court. He was reappointed in 2001 to a term that ended in 2006. In 2003, he was appointed a Criminal Court judge and an Acting Supreme Court Justice, but was assigned to serve on the Family Court. He became the Supervising Judge of the Family Court of New York County in 2009.[1]
