Douglas Howard Ginsburg is a federal judge serving on senior status on the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit. He joined the court in 1986 after being nominated by President Ronald Reagan.

Early life and education

Born in Chicago, Illinois, Ginsburg graduated from Cornell University with his Bachelor's degree in 1970 and later from Chicago Law with his J.D. degree in 1973.[1]

Professional career

Ginsburg was a law clerk for Federal Appeals Judge Carl McGowan of the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit from 1973 to 1974 and then served as clerk for Associate Justice of the United States Supreme Court Thurgood Marshall in the Supreme Court of the United States from 1974 to 1975. Ginsburg was a Professor of Law at Harvard Law from 1975 to 1983 before joining the U.S. Justice Department as an Deputy Assistant U.S. Attorney General in the Antitrust Division from 1983 to 1984. Ginsburg also worked as Administrator for Information and Regulatory Affairs in the Office of Management and Budget from 1984 to 1985. Ginsburg was then nominated by President Reagan to Assistant U.S. Attorney General for the U.S. Justice Department's Antitrust Division from 1985 to 1986. Ginsburg taught as a visiting Professor of Law at Columbia-New York from 1987 to 1988, and also served as a Lecturer at Harvard Law from 1988 to 1989. Ginsburg was a Distinguished Professor of Law at George Mason from 1988 to 1993, and was also a visiting senior Lecturer and Charles J. Merriam scholar at Chicago Law in 1990, 1992, and 1994.[1]

Judicial career

DC Circuit

On the recommendation of the Congressional delegation for the District of Columbia, Ginsburg was nominated to the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit by President Ronald Reagan on September 23, 1986 to a seat vacated by Skelly Wright. Ginsburg was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on October 8, 1986 on a Senate vote and received commission on October 14, 1986. He assumed senior status on October 14, 2011.[1]
