Durfee to head Rhode Island's Judicial Nominating Commission
Rhode Island: Gov. Lincoln Chafee has appointed Louise Durfee chairwoman of the Rhode Island Judicial Nominating Commission. The Commission is responsible for screening and interviewing applicants for vacant judicial positions. They then recommend 3-5 people to the Governor, who makes the final appointment.
Durfee is a former Town Councilor for Tiverton, RI who currently runs her own law practice. She was the first woman appointed to the Rhode Island Bar Examiners Board. Gov. Chafee stated, "Louise Durfee is among the most accomplished and experienced legal minds in Rhode Island."
The Governor also appointed Alexander Biliouris to the Judicial Nominating Commission, explaining, "Not only does he have a long track record of public service and community involvement in North Smithfield but as a non-lawyer he will bring a different perspective to one of the most important commissions in the State." Biliouris is a principal broker-partner at Next Move Realty and former CEO of Alexander & Company.
