Edith Hollan Jones (b. 1949) is a federal appeals judge for the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. She joined the court in 1985 after being nominated by President Ronald Reagan. Jones was the Chief Judge of the Court from January 2006 until September 2012.

Early life and education

Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Jones graduated from Cornell University with her Bachelor's degree in 1971 and later received a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Texas School of Law in 1974.[1]

Professional career

Jones was a private practice attorney in the State of Texas from 1974 to 1985.[1]

Judicial career

Fifth Circuit

On the recommendation of Texas U.S. Senator Phil Gramm, Jones was nominated to the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit by President Ronald Reagan on February 27, 1985 to a new seat created by 98 Stat. 333, which was approved by Congress. Jones was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on April 3, 1985 and received commission on April 4, 1985. Jones served as the Chief Judge of the court from January 2006 to September 2012.[1]
