Edmund Ludwig is a federal judge for the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. He joined the court in 1985 after being nominated by President Ronald Reagan. He is serving on senior status.

Early life and education

A native Pennsylvanian, Ludwig graduated from Harvard University with his Bachelor's Degree in 1949 and his law degree in 1952. Ludwig also served as a U.S. Army Reserve Captain in the JAG (Judge Advocate General) Corps from 1953 to 1956.[1]

Professional career

Ludwig began his legal career as a private practice attorney in the State of Pennsylvania from 1956 to 1968. Ludwig became a Common Pleas Judge in the Bucks County Court of Common Pleas from 1968 to 1985. Ludwig also had academic experience as a Clinical associate professor at Hahnemann University from 1977 to 1985, as a Visiting lecturer at Temple University's Beasely School of Law from 1977 to 1982, as a Presenter at the Villanova Law School's Institute for Correctional Law from 1975 to 1977, as a part-time Faculty Member at the University of Pennsylvania from 1981 to 1982 and currently serves as a Lecturer in law at Villanova Law School since 1984.

Judicial career

Eastern District of Pennsylvania

On the recommendation of Pennsylvania U.S. Senators John Heinz III and Arlen Specter, Ludwig was nominated by President Ronald Reagan on June 21, 1985 to a seat vacated by Raymond Broderick assumed senior status. Ludwig was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on October 16, 1985 on a Senate vote and received commission on October 17, 1985. Ludwig later assumed senior status on May 20, 1997.
