Cahn was nominated by President Gerald Ford on November 18, 1974, to a seat vacated by John Morgan Davis; he was confirmed by the Senate on December 18, 1974, and received commission two days later. He served as chief judge from 1993 until his retirement on December 31, 1998. [1] Cahn was succeeded in this position by Tim Savage.
