Edward J. Garcia was a federal judge for the United States District Court for the Eastern District of California. He joined the court in 1984 after being nominated by President Ronald Reagan. Garcia retired on November 30, 2012.[1]
Early life and education
Garcia graduated from Sacramento City College with his Associate's Degree in 1951 and later graduated from the McGeorge School of Law with his Law Degree in 1958. Garcia also served on active duty in the US Army Air Corps from 1946 to 1949.
Professional career
Garcia began his legal career as a Deputy District Attorney for Sacramento County from 1959 to 1964 and was later promoted to Supervising deputy district attorney for Sacramento County from 1964 to 1969 before becoming the Chief deputy district attorney for Sacramento County from 1969 to 1972. In 1972, Garcia became a Municipal Court Judge for the Sacramento Municipal Court and served in that role until his nomination to to the Federal Bench in 1984.
Judicial career
Eastern District of California
On the recommendation of U.S. Senator Pete Wilson, Garcia was nominated by President Ronald Reagan on February 16, 1984 to a seat vacated by Philip Wilkins as Wilkins assumed senior status.[2] Garcia was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on March 13, 1984 on a senate vote and received commission on March 14, 1984. Garcia later assumed senior status on November 24, 1996.
