Edward O. Spain is a judge on the New York Supreme Court, Appellate Division, Third Department. He was appointed to this position on December 30, 1994.[1]

Biography

Judge Spain received his A.B. degree from Boston College in 1963 and his L.L.B. degree from Albany Law School in 1966. He also served in the Navy as part of the Judge Advocate General Corps (JAGC).[1][2]

Legal career

Judge Spain began his legal career in 1966 as a private practice attorney with his father, John H. Spain. He worked in this capacity until 1977. During this time, he also held various positions in government such as the Deputy Chief Clerk of the Rensselaer County Surrogate's Court, Assistant District Attorney, and Deputy Corporation Counsel for the City of Troy. In 1977, he was elected to the Troy Police Court and in 1985, he was elected to the Rensselaer County Family Court. He was elected to the Supreme Court of the State of New York in 1991 and re-elected in 2005. He was appointed Administrative Judge of the 3rd Judicial District in 1994 and he currently serves on the Appellate Division.[1][2]
