Edward Toussaint, Jr. is the Chief Judge of the Minnesota Court of Appeals. He was appointed Chief Judge of the Minnesota Court of Appeals in 1995 and was reappointed Chief Judge in 1998, 2001, 2004 and 2007.

Education

Judge Toussaint earned his J.D. from DePaul University Law School.

Legal career

Judge Toussaint was appointed to Hennepin County District Court in 1992. From 1981 to 1987 he served as a Workers' Compensation Judge and from 1987 to 1992 he was a Workers' Compensation Court of Appeals Judge. From 1975 to 1981 he was Claim Counsel for American Family Insurance. He is an Adjunct Professor at William Mitchell College of Law.

Associations

Judge Toussaint was elected President of the Council of Chief Judges in November 1998 and since 1996 has served on the Executive Committee of the Council of Chief Judges. He is a member of the Minnesota State Bar Association; the Hennepin County Bar Association; Minnesota Association of Black Lawyers, Board of Directors for African American Adoption Agency; American Bar Association Section on Legal Education and Admissions to the Bar Standards Review Committee, Adjunct Professor of Law at William Mitchell College of Law, and Adjunct Professor at University of St. Thomas School of Law.[1]
