Eugene Pigott

Eugene Pigott is a judge of the State of New York Court of Appeals, New York's court of last resort. Justice Pigott was appointed to this position by Republican Governor Pataki on August 18, 2006. His term ends in 2020.[1]

Biography

Justice Pigott was born in September of 1946. After receiving his B.A. degree from LeMoyne College in 1968, he served on active duty in the United States Army from 1968 to 1970. He received his J.D. degree from SUNY at Buffalo School of Law in 1973 and was admitted to the Bar of the State of New York in 1974.[1]

Legal career

Justice Pigott began his career with the Buffalo, New York firm of Offermann, Fallon, Mahoney & Adner in 1974. In 1982 he was appointed Erie County Attorney and served in that position until 1986. In 1986 he joined the firm of Offermann, Cassano, Pigott & Greco as chief trial counsel. He was appointed to the New York State Supreme Court by Governor George E. Pataki on February 4, 1997 and thereafter was elected to a full 14-year term. He was designated to the Appellate Division, Fourth Department in 1998 and was appointed Presiding Justice on February 16, 2000. On August 18, 2006, Governor Pataki nominated him to the Court of Appeals and the nomination was confirmed by the New York State Senate on September 15, 2006.[1]
