Fernado J. Gaitan, Jr. is a federal judge for the United States District Court for the Western District of Missouri. He joined the court in 1991 after being nominated by President George H.W. Bush. Gaitan has been the chief judge of the court since 2007.
Early life and education
Gaitan graduated from Pittsburg State-Kansas with his Bachelor's degree in 1970 and later graduated from Kansas City Law with his J.D. degree in 1974. [1]
Professional career
Gaitan began his career as a staff attorney for the former Southwestern Bell Telephone Company which is known today as AT&T from 1974 to 1980 before being appointed as a Circuit Court Judge for the Sixteenth Judicial Circuit Court of Missouri from 1980 to 1986 and later was appointed as a State Appeals judge in the Missouri Court of Appeals representing the Western District from 1986 to 1991. Judicial career
Western District of Missouri
On the recommendation of U.S. Senator Kit Bond, Gaitan was nominated by President George Bush on May 16, 1991 to a seat vacated by Russell Clark. Gaitan was confirmed by the Senate on July 18, 1991 on unanimous consent of the U.S. Senate and received commission on August 2, 1991[2]. Gaitan has served as the chief judge of the Western District of Missouri since 2007 [1]
