Fernando M. Olguin is a federal judge for the United States District Court for the Central District of California. He joined the court in 2012 after an appointment from Barack Obama. At the time of his appointment, he was a federal magistrate judge for the United States District Court for the Central District of California. He was appointed to this position on July 23, 2001.[1] On May 14, 2012 President Barack Obama nominated Geraci to the United States District Court for the Central District of California.[2]
Early life and education
Judge Olguin received his undergraduate degree from Harvard University in 1985 and his J.D. degree from the University of California, Boalt Hall School of Law in 1989.[1]
Professional career
Judge Olguin began his career as a law clerk for Senior Judge Muecke of the District of Arizona. He worked in this position until 1991. In 1994, he became the National Director of the Education Program for the Mexican-American Legal Defense and Educational Fund. The following year he joined the firm Traber, Voorhees & Olguin as a partner. He worked in this capacity until his appointment to the District Court in 2001. [1]

Federal judicial nomination
Obama nominated Judge Fernando Olguin to the United States District Court for the Central District of California to fill the vacancy left by Jacqueline Nguyen.[2] Obama commented on the nomination, stating, “I am honored to put forward these highly qualified candidates for the federal bench. They will be distinguished public servants and valuable additions to the United States District Court.”[3]
He was rated Substantial Majority Qualified; Minority Not Qualified by the American Bar Association. He had a hearing before the Senate Judiciary Committee on June 27, 2012 and you can find his Committee Questionnaire Available Here and his Questions for the Record Available Here.[4]
On December 17, 2012 the United States Senate confirmed Fernando Olguin to an Article III post for the United States District Court for the Central District of California with a voice vote.[5][6]
