Fortuanto Pedro Benavides is a federal judge on senior status for the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. He joined the court in 1994 after being nominated by President Bill Clinton. Benavides assumed senior status on February 3, 2012.[1]


Benavides graduated from the University of Houston with a bachelor's in Business Administration in 1968 and later graduated from Houston Law with his J.D. in 1972.[1]

Benavides was nominated by President Bill Clinton on January 27, 1994, to a seat vacated by Judge Thomas Gee. He was confirmed by the Senate on May 6, 1994, and received commission on May 9, 1994. Benavides assumed senior status on February 3, 2012.[1]
