The title of Founding Father is usually applied in loose terms, however most sources recognize the 56 signers of the Declaration of Independence and the 55 delegates to the U.S. Constitutional Convention as the aggregate 115 "Fathers." Other additions to the group include the original Supreme Court justices from 1789-1795, as well as commanding officers in the American Revolution, various post-Revolution office holders, authors of Revolutionary-era literature, and the attendees to the Continental Congress and Philadelphia Convention.
