Frederick Kapala

Fredrick Kapala is an Article III federal judge in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois representing the Rockford Division.
Early life
A native of the Rockford region, Kapala graduated with his Bachelor's Degree from Marquette University in 1972 before graduating from the University of Illinois law school in 1976.
Legal career
During college, Kapala enlisted in the US Army Reserve and served until 1980[1]. After graduation from law school, Kapala became an Assistant State's Attorney for Winnebago County where Rockford is located from 1976 to 1977 before he served as a private practice in the Rockford region from 1977 to 1982[2]. From 1982 till his appointment in 2007 to the Federal Bench, Kapala had a long judicial career first as an associate judge from 1982 to 1994 until he became a circuit judge in 1994 until 2001 in the 17th Circuit Court of Illinois[3]. In 2001, Kapala was a judge in the 2nd District of the Illinois Appealatte Court until 2007.
Federal judicial career
Kapala was nominated by President George W. Bush on January 9, 2007, to a seat vacated by Philip Reinhard. Kapala was confirmed by the Senate on May 8, 2007, and received commission on May 10, 2007[4].
