Garnett Thomas Eisele is an Article III federal judge for the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Arkansas. Eisele is serving on senior status.
Early life and education
Eisele served for four years in the US Army as private from 1942 to 1946 before going to college on the GI Bill. Eisele graduated from Washington University in St. Louis with his Bachelor's Degree in 1947 and later went Harvard Law School and graduated with a Bachelors and Masters of Law Degrees in 1950 and 1951. Also, Eisele served as a reservist in the US Navy from 1952 to 1961. [1]
Professional career
Eisele was a private practice attorney in Arkansas from 1951 to 1953 and 1956 to 1970 From 1953 to 1955 Eisele worked in the US Attorney's Office as an Assistant U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Arkansas. Also, Eisele served as a legal adviser to Republican Arkansas Governor Winthrop Rockefeller from 1966 to 1969. [1]
Judicial career
Eastern District of Arkansas
On the recommendation of U.S. Congressman John Hammerscmidt, Eisele was nominated by President Richard Nixon on January 23, 1970, to a seat vacated by Gordon Young as Young went on senior status. Eisele was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on August 5, 1970 on a Senate vote and received commission on August 6, 1970. Eisele served as Chief Judge from 1975 to 1991 before assuming senior status on August 1, 1991. [1]
