Gary S. Austin is a federal magistrate judge for the United States District Court for the Eastern District of California. He was appointed to this position on October 12, 2007.[1]
Education
Judge Austin received his B.A. degree from California State University at Fresno in 1972 and his J.D. degree from San Joaquin College of Law in 1976.[1]
Career
Judge Austin began his career in 1976 as an law clerk and crier for U.S. District Judge M.D. Crocker. In 1977, he worked as a staff attorney in the Eastern District of California U.S. Federal Defenders Office. Later that year he became a Fresno County Deputy District Attorney. He held this position until 1986, serving as a Senior Deputy District Attorney and a lead attorney for the Career Criminal Unit for the last two years. He then worked as a Fresno Municipal Court Judge until 1988, when he was promoted to the Fresno Superior Court. He served on the Superior Court until he became a magistrate judge in 2007.[2]
