Gene Gomes

Gene M. Gomes is a judge on the Fifth District of the California Courts of Appeal. He was appointed by Governor Davis and took the oath of office on May 31, 2002. He was approved by voters on November 2, 2002 and his current term ends on January 1, 2014.[1]

Biography

Gene Gomes was born in Fresno in 1946. He graduated from Fresno State University in 1969. In 1972, he received his law degree (J.D.) from the University of Pacific McGeorge School of Law.[2]

Legal career

Gene Gomes began his legal career as a Deputy District Attorney for Fresno County fromo 1972 to 1975. He then became a Chief Trial Deputy District Attorney for two years. After this, he went into private practice with the law firm Gomes, Gomes, Fisk and Berman. On October 31, 1980, he became a judge on the Municipal Court, Consolidated Fresno Judicial District due to an appointment by Governor Brown. He was elevated to the Fresno Superior Court in 1982, where he served until his appointment to the Court of Appeals.[2]
