George Nicholson is a judge on the Third District of the California Courts of Appeal. He took the oath of office on August 23, 1990, after being appointed by then-Governor Deukmejian. He was retained on November 2, 2010 and his current term ends on January 3, 2023.[1]
Education
George Nicholson earned an associate's degree from Oakland City College in math and science. He earned a bachelor's degree in political science from California State University at Hayward and his law degree from the University of California, Hastings College of Law. He was admitted to the California Bar in 1968.[2]
Legal career
George Nicholson worked as a Deputy District Attorney from 1968 to 1974. He then worked as a Senior Trial Deputy District Attorney until 1976. He was the Executive Director for the California District Attorneys Association from 1976 to 1979. After this, he worked as a Special Assistant Attorney General until 1980, when he became a Senior Assistant Attorney General. He worked for the Governor as part of the Office of Planning and Research from 1983 to 1984. He then founded the National School Safety Center, a partnership of Pepperdine University and the United States Departments of Justice and Education. He was appointed to the Sacramento Municipal Court in 1987 and to the Superior Court in 1989.[2]
