George Curtis Smith is an Article III federal judge for the United States District Court for the Southern District of Ohio. He joined the court in 1987 after being nominated by President Ronald Reagan. Smith is a judge serving on senior status. [1]

Professional career
After law school for five years, Smith worked for the City of Columbus, OH first as an Assistant city attorney from 1959 to 1962 and as an Executive Assistant to the Mayor from 1962 to 1964. In 1964, Smith became the Assistant attorney general for Ohio before becoming Chief counsel to prosecuting attorney in Franklin County from 1965 to 1970. In 1971, Smith was elected prosecuting attorney for Franklin County until 1980 where Smith was elected judge in the Franklin County Municipal Court from 1980 to 1985 before being elected as a judge in the Franklin County Court of Common Pleas from from 1985 till his appointment to the Federal Bench in 1987. Smith was nominated by Ronald Reagan on July 1, 1987 to a seat vacated by Joseph Kinneary as Kinneary went on senior status. Smith was confirmed by the Senate on November 6, 1987 on a Senate vote and received commission on November 9, 1987. Smith, later assumed senior status on January 1, 2002. [1] Smith was succeeded in this position by Gregory Frost.
