George A. Yanthis is the chief magistrate judge for the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York. He was first appointed to this court in 1996.[1]
Biography and Education
Judge Yanthis was born in 1948. He received his Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Kent State University and his J.D. degree from Syracuse University College of Law.[1]
Career
Judge Yanthis began his career in 1975 as a staff attorney in the New York State Assembly. The following year, he joined the New York Department of State as a Legal Affairs Officer. He then worked as an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of New York from 1980 to 1997. Prior to his judicial appointment, he became Chief of the Criminal Division.[1]
