Gordon Jay Quist is an Article III federal judge for the United States District Court for the Western District of Michigan. He joined the court in 1992 after being nominated by President George H.W. Bush. Quist is serving on senior status.
Early life and education
Born in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Quist graduated from Michigan State University with his Bachelor's degree in 1959 and from the George Washington University Law School with his Juris Doctor degree in 1962. [1]
Professional career
Quist was a private practice attorney in Washington, D.C., from 1962 to 1964; in Chicago, Illinois until 1966; and in Grand Rapids, Michigan until 1992. [1]
Judicial career
Western District of Michigan
Quist was nominated to the United States District Court for the Western District of Michigan by President George H.W. Bush on March 20, 1992 to a new seat created by 104 Stat. 5089, which was approved by Congress. Quist was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on June 26, 1992 on a Senate vote, and received commission on June 30, 1992.[2] Quist assumed senior status on January 1, 2006. [1]
