Hampshire probate judge retires at 70
Northampton, Massachusetts: Judge Gail L. Perlman retired from the Hampshire Probate and Family Court on May 25, 2011, a day before she reached the mandatory retirement age of 70. Perlman had served on this court since 1998. A former social worker, she spent her legal career focused on alternative dispute resolution and mediation. She found these elements important in the divorce and child custody proceedings of the probate court. Retired Chief Justice Sean Dunphy, who preceded Perlman on the probate court stated, "I think she left both the Hampshire division and the court system in better places." David Sullivan, former register of probate, said of her, "She taught me to listen to all points of view before you make a leadership decision. She really worked to build consensus." Judge Linda S. Fidnick, who has served as a probate judge since 2008, succeeds Perlman.
