Harry Sandlin Mattice, Jr. is an Article III federal judge for the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Tennessee. He joined the court in 2005 after being nominated by President George W. Bush.
Education
Born in Chattanooga, Tennessee, Mattice graduated from the University of Tennessee-Knoxville with his Bachelor's Degree in 1976 and his Juris Doctor degree in 1981. [1]
Professional career
Mattice was a private practice attorney in the State of Tennessee from 1981 to 2001. In 1997, Mattice served as Senior Counsel for the U.S. Senate Committee on Governmental Affairs before being appointed by President George W. Bush in 2001 to the U.S. District Attorney for the Eastern District of Tennessee.[2] [1]
Judicial career
Eastern District of Tennessee
On the recommendation of U.S. Senators Bill Frist and Lamar Alexander, Mattice was nominated to the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Tennessee by President George W. Bush on July 28, 2005 to a seat vacated by Allan Edgar as Edgar went on senior status. Mattice was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on October 24, 2005 on a Senate vote and received commission on November 18, 2005. [3]
