Harry Pregerson is a federal judge with the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit in San Francisco. He joined the court in 1979 after being nominated by President Jimmy Carter.
Early life and education
Born in Los Angeles, California, Pregerson graduated from University of California, Los Angeles with a Bachelor's Degree in 1947 and later graduated from California Boalt Hall School of Law with an LL.B., 1950. Pregerson also served in the United States Marine Corps as a First Lieutenant from 1944 to 1946.[1]
Professional career
Pregerson began his career as a private practice attorney in California from 1951 to 1965 before serving as a Judge in the Los Angeles Municipal Court from 1965 to 1966. Pregerson was a Superior Court Judge in the Los Angeles County Superior Court from 1966 to 1967. [1]
Judicial career
Central District of California
Pregerson was nominated to United States District Court for the Central District of California by President Lyndon B. Johnson on November 29, 1967 to a new seat created by 80 Stat. 75, which was approved by Congress. Pregerson was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on December 7, 1967 on a Senate vote and received commission on December 7, 1967. [1]
Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals
Pregerson was nominated to the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit by President Jimmy Carter on August 28, 1979 to a new seat created by 92 Stat. 1629, which was approved by Congress. Pregerson was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on October 31, 1979 on a Senate vote and received commission on November 2, 1979. [1]
