Hayden Head was an federal judge for the United States District Court for the Southern District of Texas. He joined the court in 1981 after being nominated by President Ronald Reagan. Head was the Chief Judge of the court serving as the court's lead judicial administrative officer in conjunction with the Clerk of Court in the court's day to day operations from 2003-2009. On November 12, 2009 he assumed senior status. [1]

Early life and education

A native of Texas, Head graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with his Bachelor's Degree in 1966 and with his law degree in 1968. Head served in the US Navy from 1969 to 1972.[2]

Head spent his entire pre-judicial legal career as a private practice attorney licensed in the State of Texas from 1968 to 1969 and 1972 to 1981.[2]

Judicial career

Southern District of Texas

On the recommendation of Texas U.S. Senator Phil Gramm, Head was nominated by President Ronald Reagan on September 17, 1981 to a seat vacated by Owen Cox as Cox assumed senior status. Head was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on October 21, 1981 on a senate vote and received commission on October 26, 1981. Head has been the Chief Judge of the court since 2003.[2]
