Henry Coke Morgan, Jr. is an Article III federal judge for the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia. He joined the court in 1992 after being nominated by President George H.W. Bush.
Early Life and Education
Born in Norfolk, Virginia, Morgan graduated from Washington and Lee University with his Bachelor's Degree in 1957 and later from the Washington and Lee University School of Law with his Juris Doctor degree in 1960. Morgan served as a U.S. Army Reserve Lieutenant from 1958 to 1959. [1]
Legal Career
Morgan was an Assistant City Attorney for the City of Norfolk from 1960 to 1963 before entering private practice in Virginia until 1992. [1]
Federal Judicial Career
On the recommendation of Virginia U.S. Senator John Warner, Morgan was nominated to the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia by President George H.W. Bush on October 22, 1991 to a new seat created by 104 Stat. 5089, which was approved by Congress. Morgan was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on April 8, 1992 on a Senate vote and received commission on April 13, 1992. Morgan assumed senior status on February 8, 2004. [2]
