Howard Frederic Sachs is a federal judge on the United States District Court for the Western District of Missouri. He joined the court in 1979 after being nominated by President Jimmy Carter. He is serving on senior status. [1]
Early life and education
Sachs graduated from Williams with his Bachelor's degree in 1947 and later graduated from Harvard Law with his J.D. degree in 1950 and also served in the U.S. Navy as a Electrical Technician's Mate-Second Class from 1944 to 1946[1].
Professional career
Sachs began his legal career as a law clerk for former federal judge Albert Ridge in the Western District of Missouri from 1950 to 1951 before becoming a private practice attorney in Missouri from 1951 to 1979[1].
Judicial career
Western District of Missouri
Sachs was nominated by President Jimmy Carter on May 17, 1979 to a new seat created by 92 Stat. 1629 which was approved by Congress. Sachs was confirmed by the Senate on September 25, 1979 on a senate vote and received commission on September 26, 1979. Sachs served as the chief judge of the Western District of Missouri from 1990 to 1992 before later assuming senior status on October 31, 1992[1].
