October 28, 2011

Des Moines, Iowa: Judge Don C. Nickerson, of Iowa's 5th District Court, has announced his retirement due to continued back and leg pain. He has been on disability for almost 10 months. "I've got to clear a space for somebody else," he explained.[1] Prior to his judicial appointment in 2003, he was a private practice lawyer and U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Iowa.

Judge Nickerson's position will remain vacant for at least six months, in an effort by the state judicial branch to meet financial savings goals.[1]
