James Gwin is an Article III federal judge for the United States District Court for the Northern District of Ohio. He joined the court in 1997 after being nominated by President Bill Clinton.

Early life and education

Born in Canton, Ohio, Gwin received his undergraduate degree from Kenyon College in 1976 and his Juris Doctor degree from The University of Akron Law School in 1979.[1]

Professional career

Gwin was in private practice from 1979 to 1989, before becoming Judge for the Stark County Court of Common Pleas in 1989.[1]

Judicial career

Northern District of Ohio

On the recommendation of Senator John Glenn, Gwin was nominated to the United States District Court for the Northern District of Ohio by President Bill Clinton on 31, 1997 to a seat vacated by Sam Bell as Bell assumed senior status. Gwin was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on November 5, 1997 on a senate vote and received commission on November 7, 1997.[2]

Awards and associations

Gwin has been active in the North Central Ohio Juvenile Diabetes Foundation and the Central Stark County, Ohio Mental Health Center.[3]
