James Helmick Beatty (1836-1927) was a federal judge on the United States District Court for the District of Idaho.

He received a recess appointment from President Benjamin Harrison on March 7, 1891 and was nominated on December 10th. He was confirmed by the Senate on February 4, 1892, and received commission that same day. He retired on March 1, 1907. Beatty was succeeded in this position by Frank Sigel Dietrich.
