James R. Muirhead is a federal magistrate judge for the United States District Court for the District of New Hampshire. He was appointed to this position on September 1, 1995 to a renewable eight-year term. He was then re-appointed in 2003. He plans to retire in the spring of 2010. He will be replaced by Landya Boyer McCafferty.[1][2]

Judge Muirhead is the district's second magistrate judge, the first being William Barry, who served in the position from 1984-1995.[3]

Education

Judge Muirhead received his undergraduate degree from Cornell University and his law degree from the Cornell Law School.[1]

Career

Judge Muirhead was a partner of the law firm McLane, Graf, Raulerson and Middleton, P.A. prior to his appointment to the U.S. District Court.[1]
