James W. Whatley was a judge on the Florida Second District Court of Appeal. He was appointed by Governor Chiles in January of 1995.[1] He was retained by voters in 1996,[2] 2002[3] and 2008.[4] He resigned from his current term, which would have ended January 5, 2015.[5][6]
Education
James Whatley graduated from the University of Miami in 1969 and went on to receive his law degree from the same school in 1972.[1]
Legal career
James Whatley began his legal career in 1972 with the law firm Manners, Amoon, Whatley & Tucker in Miami. He worked there until 1981, then moved to the firm Kanetsky, Moore, DeBoer & Whatley in Sarasota County. He specialized in civil trial law. In January of 1989, he was appointed to the 12th Judicial Circuit of Florida. He held this position until his appointment to the Court of Appeal in 1995.[1]
