Janis Graham Jack is a U.S. District Court Judge serving on senior status for the United States District Court for the Southern District of Texas. She assumed senior status on June 1, 2011. She gained notoriety for her vociferous reprimand against trial lawyers during the 2005 silicosis tort case, In Re: Silica Products Liability Litigation. Her findings triggered investigations by a congressional committee, federal prosecutors in New York, and the Texas attorney general.[1]
Judge Jack, a former nurse, was a Clinton appointee.[2][3]
Early life and education
Judge Jack received her R.N. degree from the St. Thomas School of Nursing in 1969; five years later, she had obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Baltimore. In 1981, she graduated from the South Texas College of Law, adding a third degree--this time a J.D. to her growing collection of academic pursuits.
Professional career
From 1981 until her appointment to the Federal Court, Jack served in private practice. Her seat, incidentally, had been newly created by 104 Stat. 5089. Jack was nominated by Nominated by President wikipedia:Bill Clinton to the new judgeship approved by Congress. Jack was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on March 10, 1994 on a senate vote and received commission on March 11, 1994.[4]

Jack was nominated by William J. Clinton on November 19, 1993, to a new seat authorized by 104 Stat. 5089. He was confirmed by the Senate on March 10, 1994, and received commission on March 11, 1994. Jack assumed senior status on June 1, 2011.
