Janis Brustares Keyser is a judge of the 15th Judicial Circuit Court in Florida. She was appointed by Governor Rick Scott on May 26, 2011 to succeed Jack H. Cook. She was elected in 2012 and her current term expires in January of 2019.[1][2]


Keyser was born in Miami. She received her B.A. degree from Florida State University in 1979 and her J.D. from the University of Florida College of Law in 1982.[1][3][4]


Keyser began her career as a law clerk to Tobias Simon (Summer of 1981) and U.S. District Judge Jose Gonzalez, Jr. (1982-1984). She then worked as a private practice lawyer until March of 1985. She then served as a law clerk to Hon. James Downey of the 4th District Court of Appeal before returning to private practice in July of 1986. In April of 2006, she joined the Palm Beach County Court, where she served until her elevation to the circuit court in 2011.[3]

2012 election

Keyser was unopposed and automatically re-elected following the primary election on August 14, 2012.[5]
