Jaynee LaVecchia is a justice of the New Jersey Supreme Court. She was sworn in for a term to begin February 1, 2000. She is now tenured on this court until October 9, 2024, when she reaches the age of mandatory retirement at 70.[1]
Education
LaVecchia received her B.A. from Douglass College in 1976 and her J.D. from Rutgers School of Law in 1979.[2]
Career
LaVecchia has held many positions in the public sector. She served as deputy attorney general in the Division of Law in New Jersey. She was Director of the Division of Law in the Department of Law and Public Safety from 1984 to 1998. Meanwhile, she was counsel to Governor Thomas H. Kean, both as an Assistant Counsel and also Deputy Chief Counsel. From 1989 to 1994, she was Director and Chief Administrative Law Judge for the Office of Administrative Law. In 1998, LaVecchia was appointed as the New Jersey Commissioner of Banking and Insurance. She served in this capacity until her appointment to the New Jersey Supreme Court in 2000.[3]
