Biography
Honorable Jeanne Stempien is serving her third term as a Judge of the Wayne County Third Circuit Court.[1]
Legal education and experience
Judge Stempien received a Bachelor of Arts with Honors from the University of Michigan- Dearborn and a Juris Doctor, Magna Cum Laude, from the Detroit College of Law.[2]
Awards and associations
Judge Stempien was elected to the Judicial Tenure Commission commencing January 1, 2004. Her term expires December 31, 2009. In the past, she was elected the Chairperson of the Schoolcraft College Board of Trustees. Judge Stempien served as a facilitator for the National Judicial College and is currently a member of the Inns of Court, an advocacy program for law students.[3]
Stempien denied a motion to dismiss $400 gun lawsuit
Judge Jeanne Stempien denied a motion to dismiss Wayne County's lawsuit seeking $400 million in damages. Wayne County filed a lawsuit in April 2000 after catching gun dealers allegedly selling firearms to felons and underage buyers on videotape. The gun manufacturers and dealers brought a motion to Judge Stempien regarding the lawsuit.[4]
