Jewel E. "Duke" Welch, Jr. is a judge of the Louisiana First Circuit Court of Appeal. He was first elected to this position in 2004.[1] His current ten-year term will end on December 31, 2014.[2]
Education
Welch received his B.S. degree (Business Management) from the University of Maryland in 1977, his J.D. degree from the Louisiana State University Paul M. Hebert Law Center in 1980. He later earned his Master's degree (Judicial Studies) from the University of Nevada-Reno in 2009. He is a Master of Laws candidate at Pepperdine University.[3]

2012 election
Welch ran for the seat of retiring Chief Justice Catherine Kimball on the Louisiana Supreme Court. He was defeated on November 6, 2012 after receiving 11.1% of the vote.[4][5][6]
