Jim Sharp is a judge on the Texas First District Court of Appeals. He was elected to this position in November of 2008 and took office in January of 2009.[1] His current term ends on December 31, 2014.[2]
Education
Justice Sharp grew up in Dallas, Texas. He earned a B.A. degree in English from the University of Texas at Austin while working full-time for the Texas Legislature as a clerk, an aide, and a Senate Education Committee staff member. Prior to finishing this degree, he worked as a writer and campaign planner for the consulting firm of Matt Reese & Assocs. After graduation, he worked as a Director of Public Relations for American Income Life Insurance operations. He then worked for Champion Paper Co. for approximately one year. After this, he earned his J.D. degree from South Texas College of Law while clerking for various Houston law firms.[3][4]
Legal career
Before he was elected to the Court of Appeals in 2008, Justice Sharp worked as a solo attorney in the general practice of law for many years.[4]
2010 election
Sharp ran for a seat on the Texas Supreme Court. He ran unopposed in the Democratic primary, but was defeated by Debra Lehrmann in the general election. [5]
