John Christopher Mahoney (1882-1952) was a federal judge on the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit and the United States District Court for the District of Rhode Island. He joined the First Circuit in 1940 after an appointment from Franklin Roosevelt. He joined the District of Rhode Island in [1]

Judicial career

First Circuit

Mahoney was nominated to the First Circuit by President Franklin Delano Roosevelt on January 11, 1940 to replace James Madison Morton. He was confirmed by the Senate on February 7th, and received commission on February 12th. On December 20, 1950, he assumed senior status and continued to serve in this capacity until his death on November 18, 1952. His seat was filled by John Patrick Hartigan[1]

District of Rhode Island

Mahoney was nominated to the District of Rhode Island by President Franklin Delano Roosevelt on May 24, 1935 to replace Ira Lloyd Letts. He was confirmed by the Senate on June 4th, and received commission on June 7th. He served on this court until February 21, 1940, when he was appointed to the First Circuit. His seat was filled by John Patrick Hartigan.[1]
