John Curtiss Underwood

John Curtiss Underwood (1809-1873) was a federal judge on the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia.
He received a recess appointment from President Abraham Lincoln on March 27, 1863. On January 5, 1864, he was officially nominated. He was confirmed by the Senate on January 25, 1864, and received commission that same day. He was assigned to the United States District Court for the District of Virginia on June 11, 1864. He served there until he was reassigned to the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia on February 3, 1871. He served until his death on December 7, 1873.
