John Darrah is a federal judge for the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.

Education

Darrah graduated from Loyola-Chicago with his Bachelor's degree in 1965 and later graduated from Loyola-Chicago Law with his Juris Doctor in 1969[1].

Legal career

Darrah began his legal career as a Attorney-advisor for the Federal Trade Commission from 1969 to 1971 before becoming a Deputy public defender in the DuPage County Public Defender's Office from 1971 to 1973 and in the same time frame was a private practice attorney licensed in Illinois. Darrah later became an Assistant state's attorney for the Illinois States Attorney Office from 1973 to 1976 before resuming private practice work from 1976 to 1986 and became a Circuit court judge in the Illinois 18th Judicial Circuit Court from 1986 to 2000. Darrah also taught academically as a Adjunct professor at Northern Illinois Law since 1972[1].

Federal judicial career

On the recommendation of U.S. Senator Dick Durbin, Darrah was nominated by President Bill Clinton on May 11, 2000 to a seat vacated by George Marovich as Marovich assumed senior status. Darrah was confirmed by the Senate on June 30, 2000 on a majority voice vote and received commission on July 14, 2000[2].
