Early life and education
Dowdell received his J.D. in 1981 from the University of Tulsa School of Law and his B.A. in 1978 from Wake Forest University.[1]
Professional career
Dowdell worked with the law firm of Norman Wohlgemuth Chandler & Dowdell, P.C. from 1987 until 2012. From 1999 until 2012 he also served on a pro bono basis as an Adjunct Settlement Judge in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Oklahoma. From 1981 to 1983 Dowdell served as a law clerk for the Honorable William Holloway Jr. of the 10th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. [1]
Judicial career
Northern District of Oklahoma
Obama nominated John Dowdell to the United States District Court for the Northern District of Oklahoma to fill the seat vacated by Terence Kern.[2] Obama commented on the nomination, stating, "“I am honored to put forward these highly qualified candidates for the federal bench. They will be distinguished public servants and valuable additions to the United States District Court.” [3]
He was rated Substantial Majority Well Qualified, Minority Qualified by the ABA. He had a hearing before the Senate Judiciary Committee on May 9, 2012 and you can find his Committee Questionnaire Available Here and his Questions for the Record Available Here.[4]
On December 11, 2012 the United States Senate confirmed John Dowdell to an article III post for the United States District Court for the Northern District of Oklahoma with a vote of 95-0.[5][6]
