Judicial career
Supreme Court of United States
He was nominated by President Andrew Jackson on March 6, 1829 to fill the vacancy left by Robert Trimble. He was confirmed by the Senate on March 7, 1829, and received commission that same day. He served until his death on April 4, 1861.[1] He was succeeded to this post by Noah Haynes Swayne.
