John Henry Moore II is an Article III federal judge for the United States District Court for the Middle District of Florida. He joined the court in 1981 after being nominated by President Ronald Reagan. Moore is serving on senior status.
Early life and education
A native of New Jersey, Moore graduated from Syracuse University in Syracuse, NY with his Bachelor's Degree in 1952 and later graduated from the University of Florida College of Law with his juris doctorate degree in 1961. Also, Moore was a long time member of the US Navy Reserve serving as a Commander on reservist duty from 1948 to 1971. 
Moore started his career as a private practice attorney briefly in the State of Georgia in 1961 before moving to Florida later that year and served as a private practice laywer in 1967. In 1967, Moore was appointed Circuit Court Judge in the 17th Judicial Circuit Court of Florida until 1977. Moore also served as the Chief judge of the court being the lead administrative officer of the court with the Clerk of Court from 1975 to 1977. 
In 1977, Moore was appointed by Florida Governor Reubin O'Donovan Askew to become a Appeals Judge in the Florida Fourth District Court of Appeals from 1977 to 1981. Moore was nominated to Southern District of Florida US Court in 1976 by President Jimmy Carter, but the U.S. Senate took no action on his nomination by blocking the nomination.
Middle District of Florida
On the recommendation of Senator Paula Hawkins, Moore was nominated by President Ronald Reagan on November 4, 1981, to a new seat created by 92 Stat. 1629 which was approved by Congress. Moore was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on November 24, 1981 on a senate vote and received commission on December 1, 1981. Moore served as chief judge as the court's administrative officer along with the Clerk of Court from 1992 to 1995 before later assuming senior status on December 31, 1995.
