John Albert Nordberg is an Article III federal judge for the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. He is serving on senior status.

Early life

Nordberg graduated from Carelton College and later graduated from the University of Michigan law school in 1950. [1]

Legal career

Nordberg has had a long and distinguished legal career that involved facets of public service as well. During college Nordberg enlisted in the U.S. Navy as a Electronic Technician Mate Third Class from 1944-1946. From 1950 to 1976, Nordberg was a private practice attorney based out of Chicago. During that time span, he has served as a municipal attorney representing the Chicago suburbs of Wilmette Park from 1958 to 1976, Glenview from 1961 to 1965, and for Morton Grove from 1969 to 1974. Nordberg started his judicial career as a judicial magistrate for the Cook County from 1957 to 1964 before being elected a circuit court judge in Cook County before being appointed to the Federal Bench from 1976 to 1982. In the same time frame he also served as an arbitrator for the American Bar Association. [1]

Federal judicial career

Nordberg on the recommendation of former U.S. Senator Charles Percy was nominated by President Ronald Reagan on March 11, 1982 to a seat vacated by Bernard Decker. Nordberg was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on April 20, 1982, and received commission on April 21, 1982. Nordberg assumed senior status on June 18, 1994. [1]
