John O. Steele was a justice on the Illinois First District Appellate Court. He was elected to this position to replace former Judge Campbell and he took office on December 1, 2008.[1][2] His final term was to end on November 30, 2018, but he retired in January 2013.[3][4]

Education

Judge Steele graduated from the DePaul University College of Law in 1978 with a J.D. degree. [1]

Legal career

Judge Steele spent most of his legal career with a solo law practice, focusing on domestic relations. He was appointed as an Associate Judge on the Cook County Circuit Court in December of 1997. He was assigned to the First Municipal District, the Child Protection Division, and the Domestic Relations Division. He became a full Circuit Court Judge in 2000, serving in the Domestic Relations Division until his appointment to the Court of Appeals.[1]
