Jon Ernest DeGuilio is a judge on the United States District Court for the Northern District of Indiana. He was nominated to the court by President Obama in 2010.
Early life and education
DeGuilio earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Notre Dame in 1977 and his juris doctorate degree from the Valparaiso University School of Law in 1981. [1][2]
Professional career
- Appointed Lake County, IN prosecutor, 1989
- Elected Lake County, IN prosecutor, 1990
- Partner with the law firm Barnes and Thornburg, 1993-1999
- United States Attorney for the Northern District of Indiana, 1993-1999, nominated by President Clinton
- Joined Northwest Indiana Bancorp as Senior Vice President and Trust Officer, 1999 - 2001
- Became Executive Vice President and Secretary for the Bancorp, 2001 - present
- Became Executive Vice President, Stakeholders Services Group, 2001 - present
- Became General Counsel and Corporate Secretary for the Bank, 2001 - present [1][3]
Judicial career
Northern District of Indiana
On January 18, 2010, DeGuilio was recommended for nomination to President Obama for a seat on the United States District Court for the Northern District of Indiana by Senator Evan Bayh. The seat to which DeGuilio was nominated was vacated when Allen Sharp took senior status in 2007. [4][5]
Bayh said that DeGuilio "demonstrated the experience, insight, and non-ideological temperament that Hoosiers expect from their judges". [6] He made the recommendation after consultation with Senator Richard Lugar. [7]
DeGuilio received a rating of "Unanimously Qualified" from the American Bar Association. [8]
The U.S. Senate confirmed DeGuillo on May 11, 2010, on a voice vote. DeGullio will have his chambers based out of Hammond. [9]
Judiciary Committee hearing
DeGuilio had a hearing before the Senate Judiciary Committee on February 11, 2010. [8]
