Jon Stuart Scoles is a federal magistrate judge of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Iowa. He was appointed to this position on March 20, 2007.[1]
Biography and Education
Judge Scoles was born in 1951 in Charles City, Iowa. He received his B.A. degree from the University of Northern Iowa in 1973. After working as a math teacher and coach for three years, he attended the University of Iowa College of Law. He earned his J.D. degree in 1979.[1]
Career
Judge Scoles began his career as a law clerk for judges of the 2A Judicial District of Iowa. He then worked as a lawyer with the firm DeVries, Scoles, and Price until October of 1986, when he was appointed an Iowa District Court Judge. He became an Assistant Chief Judge of the Second Judicial District in 1992. He then served as Chief Judge of this court from February of 2005 until he was appointed magistrate judge in March of 2007.[1]
